Get a free Gemini API key for Focus Arabic
Focus Arabic uses Google Gemini to find the harakat and meanings of Arabic words. It runs on your own Gemini API key, which you can create for free in Google AI Studio. It takes about a minute.

- Create a key if you do not see oneOn the API Keys page, click Create API key. If you already use Google Cloud, AI Studio does not create a project for you: open Dashboard, then Projects, click Import projects, and pick one of your projects first.
- Copy the keyCopy it to the clipboard. Treat it like a password and do not share it.
Add it to Focus Arabic
- Open the Focus Arabic buttonClick the Focus Arabic icon in Chrome's toolbar. If you do not see it, click the puzzle-piece icon first, and pin Focus Arabic while you are there.
- Paste the key and click Save keyThe first time you open it, the button asks only for the key.
- Start readingOpen any page with Arabic text and rest the pointer on a word. Pages that were already open need a reload first.

Good to know
- Limits. Google sets the free tier's limits, and they can change. If you reach one, the tooltip says so: wait a minute and hover again. Sentences you have already read are saved, so they never count again.
- Privacy. On the free tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products, and human reviewers may read it. Focus Arabic sends only the Arabic words of the sentence you hover. The privacy policy has the details.
- Where the key is kept. Focus Arabic stores the key in Chrome's own storage and sends it only to Google's Gemini API.
- If the key is rejected. The tooltip tells you. Check that you copied the whole key, then paste it again in Settings.
